Aug 08, 2023Online consumer electronics market worth 112 billion euros in 2024
The European online consumer electronics market was worth 112 billion euros in 2024. This was an increase of 24 percent compared to the year before. Consumer electronics now represent 13 percent of total online retail sales.
These data come from the second edition of the “Top 100 Consumer Electronics Retail Europe” ranking, by Cross-Border Commerce Europe. It lists the 100 biggest sellers of consumer electronics, and also gives an insight into the market.
In 2023, the online consumer electronics market was worth 90 billion euros. At the time, it was expected that the market would reach 107 billion euros by 2025. The new edition shows that the market has already exceeded that in 2024.
The total consumer electronics retail market (offline and online) was worth 215 billion euros in 2024. This was an increase of 6.5 percent, a slower growth than the online market. It is expected that it will increase slowly, reaching 220 billion euros by the end of the year. The researchers expect that by then, online sales will account for more than half of that market value (117 billion euros).
When compared to online retail sales across all categories, consumers electronics holds a share of 13 percent. Last year, that share was still 11 percent.
Consumer electronics is the second-largest online sector
This makes consumer electronics the second-largest market, as the fashion sector is in the lead with a share of 15.5 percent of all online retail sales.
The top 100 online cross-border consumer electronics sellers have a market size of 47 billion euros. This means that the cross-border share of the total online consumer electronics market is 42 percent. By 2026, the cross-border share is expected to reach 47 percent. This comes down to 55 billion euros.
